The Choosing Wisely series is developed by national medical specialty organizations, asking their members to “choose wisely” among the tests and procedures commonly used in their fields. This program helps patients choose care that is:
- Supported by evidence
- Not duplicative of other tests or procedures already received
- Free from harm
- Truly necessary
Patients can use Things Providers and Patients Should Question when talking with their physicians about their healthcare. Topics include antibiotic use, cancer, medical and imaging tests, and other important health information.

US Preventive Services Task Force (USPTF)
Created in 1984, the USPTF is an independent, volunteer panel of national experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine. The USPTF works to improve the health of all Americans by making evidence-based recommendations about clinical preventive services, such as screenings, counseling services, and preventive medications.
